Our History
“If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” - Isaac Newton
A Legacy Continued
The Spiratos family’s history in business began in Newport, Rhode Island in the early 1900s, built through discipline, consistency, and a commitment to long-term value. Over time, those principles grew into substantial operations, including Valet Cleaners—owned by Tony and Mary Spiratos—which became the largest dry cleaning company in Rhode Island. At its peak, the business employed over 100 people and served the U.S. Navy fleet stationed in Newport, handling large volumes of naval uniforms during World War II.
During that same period, the family contributed to the national war effort through a major war bond drive held at Valet Cleaners, raising over $2.5 million (approximately $46 million today), reflecting a tradition of leadership and impact beyond business itself.
On the Rego side of the family, a similar entrepreneurial foundation was established through Gabriel and Mary Rego, who owned and operated one of the largest potato farms on Aquidneck Island. Spanning over 100 acres,
the farm maintained a supply contract with Frito-Lay and represented a significant agricultural operation in the region—land that is now home to Newport National Golf Club.
These combined foundations carried forward through subsequent generations, culminating in the repositioning and record-setting sale of Sea View Villa—a landmark oceanfront estate held by the family for more than seventy years, located directly across from the Cliff Walk.
Beginning in 2005, under the leadership of Anthony G. Spiratos and his late mother Evelyn, the property was transformed into a high-performing luxury rental prior to its $15 million sale in 2023, marking one of the region’s notable oceanfront transactions.
Today, that legacy continues in Charleston, South Carolina. Through Spiratos Global, Anthony G. Spiratos is building the next chapter—focused on modern, scalable businesses grounded in the same principles of discipline, execution, and long-term growth.
